TOMS S/S'11 : Journey is the Destination

We're really excited to tell you all about the latest TOMS S/S'11 Collection that has just arrived in our store.

Have you heard of Dan Eldon? He was the inspiration for this entire collection. The youngest Photojournalist ever for Reuters, his photos shone light to a war-strickened Somalia, and made a difference as the world began to take notice and launched a campaign to bring aid to the country.






Dan was stoned and beaten to death by an angry mob on 12 July 1993, while covering an aftermath of a bombing in Mogadishu. At the age of 22, he left behind a series of heartbreakingly-beautiful journals documenting his travels, which is reflected in this special collection. These include his well-worn thumbprint (retrieved from his passport), playful elephant illustrations, and his famous motto "The Journey is the Destination".

This is not only a collection inspired by Dan, but also a tribute to him and his journey. We hope, in turn, it will inspire you to become creative activists just like Dan - to transform big, bold ideas into positive action.

BAGGU: The Shabd Collection

The same great bags now in beautiful hand-dyed washes.

Created in collaboration between the people at Baggu and designer Shabd Alexander who is well-known in New York for her tie-dye works. To further prove this point, Shabd was recently invited to teach the Dame of craftwork Martha Stewart how to tie-dye!

Like the original Duck/Backpacks, these are made with recycled cotton canvas - and is reason why we really stand by these canvas bags. $69/$79 each, limited run.

The TOMS Giveaway : The Lucky 12

It has been such a joy receiving your letters in the past two weeks. The effort that must have gone into your letters: 3D pop-up cards, framed up letters, and the most honest words.

When it came down to picking the final 12, we cannot emphasise enough how agonizing the whole process was. Who would have thought? We wished there were not 12, but many more pairs of TOMS for each and every one of our contestants.

If you're one of the Lucky 12, you would already have heard from us. If you haven't, we can't thank you enough for your time spent and the inspiring stories and quotes you have now put out there in your handwritten words.




We enjoyed every minute of our time poring over your letters. How cool is a person truly in touch with their sentiments? It takes wisdom to understand who/what made you, and then guts to write it out for the world to see.

Like the persons that have made a difference in your lives, we know you're going to go on to make an impact in someone else's life. And that, to bring everything back to the TOMS message, is what their ONE FOR ONE is all about.

Timberland Women's: Sunny side up

Our first selection of Timberland ladies has been out in the store for a couple of weeks now. Like the Male series, we're starting out gently with this full-grain Suede Leather duo washed in cheerful Orange and Yellow. If you're interested to try them on, you'll find these have a classic, almost old-school shape that makes them quite cute and definitely rare in the current boat-shoes market.

We're really glad you picked up on the idea and can't wait to share your stories - and all the goodness - on our Facebook. ODWS 2011: The TOMS Giveaway!

We will be uploading your letters along the way on our Facebook Page (don't worry, we won't be revealing any names). If you're one of our lucky Twelve, you would be walking at opposite ends of the earth, with a child - your shoe-child - in an equally new pair of TOMS, somehow connected in a parallel universe of sorts. How cool is that? Get writing!

TOMS 2011: One Day Without Shoes

Over in the United States, the entire TOMS team is in the middle of organising a big scale One Day Without Shoes exercise to spread their message. If you've ever bought a pair of TOMS from us or are sporting a pair on your feet right now - big hug from us! We know that you have been buying TOMS in good faith that shoes truly are given away to children in need.

And to answer the many queries we've been getting in the store these days - the only authorised retailer for TOMS in Singapore is Rockstar, other than Pedder Red. Anyone else you buy from is not. And no matter what they tell you, those shoes are not authentic, and no one child gets shoes through these channels.

While we are not organising an ODWS event in Singapore this year, we will be doing something we think will make you REALLY happy too. Watch this space, we'll be writing you super soon.
